Hello Wild Ones,

I’m Hillarie.

I love spending time with Mama Nature and helping others connect to the healing she brings.

I created Black Girl Country Living to share my stories of reconnecting with nature and inspire others to find their way back to nature.

Stumbling into Nature

In 2020, I moved my family from the city to an acre of forested land on an island off the coast of WA.

We had no idea what we were getting ourselves into, but we knew we were ready for a change.

I planted first garden and instantly got bored with it. Suddenly, a squash arrived and I was enchanted.

I became more and more curious about the wild world outside my door. I was seeing magic all around me in everyday places—wildlife, flowers, food, and sunsets.

I realized how safe and grounded I felt. I started to see life in a different light and could feel myself becoming a new person. Feelings of fear for the future and ruminations on the past became less frequent. I began to feel more hopeful, optimistic, and present.

I was falling in love with nature as she showed me how to be patient, listen, and observe. She was showing me that I was a spiritual being, connected to all things: the earth, the air, and the stars.

Learning to be with nature transformed me and I wanted to help more people learn to love nature. Last year, I took another leap and left my career in executive education at Amazon to create experiences that connect people back to nature.
